We’ve handpicked 3 of the current best pads for heavy periods on the market.
It can be a bit overwhelming to decide and wearing the wrong pad on a heavy flow day is a costly mistake you’d never want to make.
A lot of us have learned it the hard way and the last time for me was last week when I wore a cheap unknown brand pad that kept sliding out of my underwear every 2 minutes.
And the number of times I had to readjust it in place…

Nop, not something I’d ever want to experience again and I certainly don’t want any of you to make that mistake either so I’ve handpicked 3 top rated pads that you can count on when you have your medium-heavy flow days.
Here are some reasons why you need the RIGHT period pad:
- To prevent leakage- We’ve all, at least once, worn a wrong pad that ended up making us feel like we have a blood flood down there. That disgusting feeling when you can literally sense your period blood leaking out of your pad… let’s be honest, we’ve all been there and we don’t want to go through that ever again.
- To avoid diaper feeling- Have you ever worn pads that make you feel like you’re wearing a baby’s diaper or something?
- To avoid the disabled duck walk- We’ve been there too, at least once. You know those pads that make you feel and look like you’ve got some pillow stuck in between your legs every time you walk?
- To function- This pretty much sums up all the other reasons to wear the right pad when you’re on your period. We all want to feel normal, even when it sometimes might feel like a world war 3 down there. We want to be able to go on about our day to day activities and try not to let it get to us.
1. Always Ultra Overnight With Wings, Unscented Thin Pads
For Medium-heavy blood flow.
What I like:
- Long- It’s long and covers 90% of the panty line. This is very important as it will help prevent the period blood from leaking into your underwear.
- Lightweight- It doesn’t really feel like I’m wearing a pad. I’ve noticed the lightweight feel of this pad for some years now. I very much appreciate that feeling
- Wings- Always Ultra thin has flexi wings which keep my pad secure in place and stops it from bunching. Trust me, some pads can lift up accidentally and create a whole mess out of the mess you already have down there.
- Day/night- Doesn’t make any difference. I can wear the Always pad during the day/night with ease.
- No stains- I’ve been using this brand for many years now, and have never woken up with a blood stain all over my knickers. This is one of the main reasons why I see this pad as a keeper for life. It’s sure going to come with me for another 35-40 years at least.
What I don’t like:
- Wings- as much as I like them, it would be better if they were a bit longer towards the middle of the pad. Not a big deal, but it would help.
TIP: Please don’t bother with scented pads, no matter how reputable the brand is.
Not only will it somehow irritate your private part, but it also makes ZERO difference to the way your period smells. Let’s get this fact out there. Scented pads, simply will not make your period blood smell like strawberries, vanilla, lavender or whatever else they say it’s been scented with.
The period will always smell like period. Period!
There are ways to reduce and keep the period smell under control, but you can’t completely erase it, especially not with scented pads.
2. Always Infinity Unscented Pads with Wings, Heavy Flow
Best pad for the heavy flow days.
What I like:
- Heavy flow- As advertised by the manufacturer, this pad, really is a treasure when you have your heavy flow days. Seriously, words can’t describe the mess, the discomfort and all the other uglies I’ve been through during my heavy period days with other types of pads.
Those who’ve been there and have tried the Always Infinity will almost never look back for another.
- Keeps things in place- Have you ever been through the nightmare of wearing a pad on your heavy period days that literally made your period blood leak from all sides? Argh… I’ve managed to wave my final goodbye to those days when I discovered Always Infinity.
- Absorbs- It’s made out of Infinicel material, which makes this pad 10 times more absorbent than its weight. Again, we’ve all worn pads that make your period stay on top, literally.
For instance, when you go for a pee and you can see your period blood just staying on top of the pad without being absorbed into the pad. That’s a nasty feeling and look!
Always Infinity has been a huge relief on that part also.
These pads also have microdots designed to speed up the absorption. They help keep your menstrual blood deep inside the pad so you can somehow feel dry down there, even during your heavy flow days.
- The long wings- The wings have a nice length and width to hold the pad securely in place. I’m sure we’ll all appreciate a pad that won’t keep on lifting up.
- Feel normal- I can wear this pad during my heavy period days and still function normally, without feeling any pressure or discomfort of wearing a pad. It not only absorbs fast and holds all that menstrual blood in place, but also feels significantly lightweight to wear on those days.
Who wouldn’t appreciate the idea of being able to go out to shopping, work or wherever without feeling any weirdness to walk when they’re on their period?
Always Infinity has helped me a big deal with that!
- Peaceful sleep- Sometimes, period symptoms alone can ruin our sleep and make us feel like owls until it’s over. It’s even worse if you’re not wearing a good pad on those days. You can literally feel the blood leaking or something funny going on down there every time you turn from one side to another.
Always Infinity has solved that problem also. I can sleep in peace without worrying about my period leaking and me waking up with a stain on my underwear.
Not just me, a lot of women have and still are appreciating all of those wonderful features of this pad.

3. 12 Bamboo Mama Cloth/ Menstrual Pads/ Reusable & Waterproof Sanitary Pads
Right.
So I must have been living under a rock all these years, I didn’t even know waterproof pads existed!
Don’t get your hopes too high though. Waterproof just means the back of the pad is waterproof. Otherwise, how will it be able to absorb your period blood if it’s fully waterproof on the inside as well?
The Good:
- Waterproof back- As mentioned above, the Bamboo Mama cloth pads are made out of waterproof material on the back. It means extra protection against leakage.
Does that mean you can go swimming with these on?
Swimming while on your period is not fun, at least not to me, but if you must, these pads will definitely serve you better than regular disposable pads.
You will still feel the blood/water combo inside your pad, but it will feel okayish on the outside.
- Light-heavy flow- According to the manufacturer and customers who’ve used it, these pads can be comfortably worn on both your light and heavy flow days.
- Wings that snap- Will make the cloth stay in place nicely.
- Looks like a regular pad/lightweight- customers’ love that it looks and feels like a regular lightweight pad.

My opinion: I will pass on these. Reusable or not, waterproof or not, I simply don’t like the idea of wearing cloth pads. I also don’t fancy the idea of washing and using them again.
That’s just me but please go for it if you’re comfortable wearing reusable pads.
I’m going to stick with the first 2 on this list for my medium-heavy flow days.
